Description:
This medicine is a vaccine used to prevent certain diseases (eg, cervical cancer; genital warts; cervical, vulvar, or vaginal lesions or tumors) caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in females 9 to 26 years of age.
Directions:
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. This medicine is given as a series of 3 separate injections. The first dose is given on a date chosen by you and your doctor. The second dose is given 2 months after the first dose. The third dose is given 6 months after the first dose. Be sure to keep all doctor appointments. STORE THIS MEDICINE in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 and 8 degrees C). Do not freeze. If you miss a dose of this medicine, contact your doctor to reschedule your vaccine.
Cautions:
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking anticoagulants (such as warfarin), alkylating agents (such as cyclophosphamide), antimetabolites (such as fluorouracil or methotrexate), cytotoxics (such as cisplatin), or corticosteroids (such as prednisone). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, recent fever, HIV infection, weakened immune system, bleeding or blood problems (such as hemophilia or low blood platelet levels), radiation therapy, cancer chemotherapy, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. This medicine may not provide protection against HPV infection in all recipients. This medicine is only effective against certain types of HPV and is not a treatment for diseases that are not caused by HPV. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. This medicine is not a treatment for patients already infected with HPV. It does not cure active genital warts, cervical cancer, or other lesions or tumors caused by HPV infection. Continue to have regular Pap smears and routine cervical cancer screenings as directed by your doctor even after you receive this medicine. Tell your doctor before you receive this medicine if you are scheduled to receive any other vaccines. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, tell your doctor before you receive this medicine. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
