What is Plan B
Plan B is a form of emergency contraception. It is most commonly referred to as "the morning-after pill" and is most effective in preventing pregnancy within 72 hours of having unprotected sex or failure in a contraceptive method. Plan B has proven to be effective, simple and safe to use. Here are a few situations where it can be used:
  • If you had sexual intercourse without using a form of contraception
  • Your chosen method of contraceptive fails, such as:

  • - Condom broke, slipped or was misused
    - You missed your birth control pill 2 or more days in a row
    - Your diaphragm came out or was removed too early
    - You miscalculated your fertile period if you use the "rhythm method"
  • In cases of sexual assault
How Does Plan B Work?
Plan B includes two pills. One pill is to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex and the other is taken 12 hours after the first pill. Plan B is more effective the earlier you take it.

What Happens Once I take Plan B?
After taking Plan B it is uncommon to experience any side effects and most women are able to continue with their regular activities. If any side effects do occur, they should pass quickly. If they do not, contact your physician.

Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo
Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo delivers the same effectiveness as other oral contraceptives with a lower level of hormones. It can also give you shorter, lighter, more predictable periods.

The lower dosage of hormones was developed to help prevent common side effects, such as breakthrough bleeding and spotting. A clinical study was done with over 6,000 women in the US and Canada and showed that Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo is safe and highly effective; 9 in 10 women preferred to stick with the lower dosage of hormones over a regular oral contraceptive. Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo carries 25mcg of hormones compared to 35mcg in a regular oral contraceptive.

Useful Information
Although the birth control pill helps prevent pregnancy, it also has other health benefits:

  • May reduce menstrual cramps
  • Makes your menstrual cycle more regular
  • Lightens menstrual blood flow
  • May provide some protection against developing pelvic inflammatory disease and two forms of cancer: cancer of the ovaries and cancer of the lining of the uterus.

If you have any further questions in regards to what birth control method is right for you or about Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, speak with your healthcare provider.
